BMP Evaluation and Certification

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued guidance that describes a process for approving post-construction, proprietary BMPs -- also known as manufactured treatment devices -- and assigning pollutant removal credits to them. The guidance document is entitled “Interim Use of Stormwater Manufactured Treatment Devices (MTDs) To Meet The New Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) Technical Criteria, Part IIB Water Quality Design Requirements” (Guidance Memo No. 14-2009). The MTD Registration Form is available here as a MSWord document (see Attachment 1 of Guidance  Memo No. 14-2009).

For use in complying with Part IIB of the Virginia Stormwater Management Program Regulation - 9VAC25-870 - using post-construction, proprietary BMPs, please see the following link: Post-construction, Proprietary BMPs.

For use in complying with the Virginia Stormwater Management Program Regulation using post-construction, non-proprietary BMPs, please see the following link: Post-construction, Non-proprietary BMPs. The standards and specifications for the non-proprietary BMPs are based on both traditional BMPs and low impact development (LID) practices.
