VWRRC Director Kevin McGuire Elected to Serve as NIWR President-Elect
September 9, 2026
Virginia Water Resources Research Center (VWRRC) Director Kevin McGuire has been elected to serve as President-Elect of the National Institutes for Water Resources (NIWR). In this role, he will help represent the nation’s 54 Water Resource Research Institutes and directors as they work with Congress, the U.S. Geological Survey, and other federal partners to advance the Water Resources Research Act (WRRA).
Dr. McGuires’s term as President-Elect officially began May 1, 2026. This position represents a significant three-year leadership commitment: he will serve as President-Elect in 2026–27, NIWR President in 2027–28, and Past President in 2028–29. Throughout all three years, he will also hold a seat on both the NIWR Board of Directors and its Executive Committee.
His election strengthens Virginia’s voice in national conversations about the future of water research while creating new opportunities for the VWRRC to coordinate collaborative water resources efforts across the country.
