Daniel McLaughlin
Biography
Daniel McLaughlin is a Professor in the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation at Virginia Tech and the Associate Director of the Virginia Water Resources Research Center. His research integrates hydrological and ecological processes and includes interests in watershed hydrology, forested ecosystems, and wetland and stream processes. His research spans systems and scales to better understand abiotic and biotic drivers of ecosystem function, and is broadly focused on informing water resource management.

Current research projects span four themes.
- Wetlandscape Functions: Investigating the many ways that spatially distributed wetlands provide functions at local to landscapes scales.
- Drivers of Headwater Stream Condition: Assessing the impacts of watershed activities on water quality and habitat of headwater streams.
- Managing Forests for Water Resources: Understanding the role of forest management and conservation in supporting regional water resources and other ecosystem functions.
- Hydrologic Conditions that Support Threatened Species: Assessing the controls of hydrologic regimes and associated habitat conditions for threatened and endangered species.
